Binion's
official list showed Switzerland's "Jaeggi Alphons"
as one of the players at our final table yesterday, and no
one figured out until long after the event was over that the
eighth place finisher in yesterday's Limit Hold'em event was
actually Alphons Jaeggi.
I took the day off today, and Andy "Mr. Excitement"
Glazer had a "Viva Las Vegas" day of which Elvis
Presley could have been proud. I slept the whole day and suspect
I won't have any problems sleeping tonight.
Meanwhile, everyone else kept working. Here are the results
from the $2,500 Seven-Card Stud event:
152 players started this tournament, and when we started
play at the final table, the seats and chip counts were:
Seat |
Player |
Chip Count |
1 |
Lindsay Jones |
$17,600 |
2 |
"Captain"
Tom Franklin |
$21,500 |
3 |
Ross Lichen |
$58,800 |
4 |
Andy Bloch |
$75,100 |
5 |
Ralph Levine |
$13,800 |
6 |
Larry St. Jean |
$33,300 |
7 |
Paul Darden |
$104,500 |
8 |
Hal Koch |
$55,600 |
I wouldn't have minded being around to see this one, because
Darden was making his second final table appearance at this
year's WSOP, and Andy Bloch is a respected presence on the
rec.gambling.poker newsgroup, but I was catching up on my
sleep deprivation, so I missed seeing the final. In case you
don't notice, while Darden took his chip lead and carried
it on home in what I was told with an impressive heads-up
battle with Franklin, the second and third place finishers
had been at the bottom of the chip list when they started
play:
Final Official Results, $2,500 Seven-Card Stud:
152 entrants, total prize pool $368,800
1. Paul Darden |
$147,440 |
2. "Captain"
Tom Franklin |
$73,720 |
3. Lindsay Jones |
$36,860 |
4. Ross Lichen |
$22,115 |
5. Andy Bloch |
$18,430 |
6. Larry St. Jean |
$14,745 |
7. Hal Koch |
$11,060 |
8. Ralph Levine |
$7,370 |
9th-12th, $5,530 each: Thor Hansen, Ivo Dovev, John Spadavecchia,
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson (talk about your basic "Murderer's
Row"
impressive for the final tablists to have
eliminated these guys on the way there).
13th-16th, $3,685 each: Michael Danino, Ronald Durante, Michael
Eshragh, Mallory Smith.
BACK IN THE ACTION
I'll be back with a report on the Pot-Limit Hold'em tomorrow.
Meanwhile, for those of you curious about the side action
here, yikes, if you like gigantic stakes, you've found a home.
Every night there are huge pot-limit games and 400-800 mix
games where most players have twenty grand or more in front
of them. Sometimes these games draw crowds that approach those
watching the final tables.
